Getting ready

Hello all!

I have a truck that can haul a lot of stuff. If I drive out I would be glad to have company! I now have two sets of fairy wings..sorry pirates..I'm a fairy! However I will also bring a pirate costume. Jessica, Michael mentioned you are making burkas. Do you need fabric or money? I can't offer much help as I struggle with sewing my own costumes. I'm much better at riding my Mtn bike in the dirt and rocks and can cook OK too. Well, I'm excited for Interfuse and BM. Talk to you all later
Oh...Am I going to be initiated into anything terrible??!!

:-)

you'll get to ring the virgin bell! depending on your greeter, that'll be a lovely/dusty/horrifying experience.

Yeah, no particularly horrifying experiences to expect for noobs, can't speak for interfuse though. Bob was very irritated at our greeter his first year, I'd lied and told him Burning Man has a lower population of hippies, and the very first person to assail us was a (noob himself) space cadet toting a hacky sack. That combined with two days non-stop driving and an introductory dust storm set him off for days. He's recovered and enjoys it throughly now, so no harm done. If it is something you don't want to deal with just tell them your a repeat burner, act surely and they will let you drive away relatively unscathed.

For terrorist happy hour (and believe me, a burka is appropriate desert ware) I thought full reguala is necessary. It won't take me long to do (they aren't that complicated) but I should prob. make mine first to get a guesstimate of how much fabric you should buy. My nets running slow today or I'd find you a pic we've got somewhere of girls who had pink sequenced burkas out on the playa. So it could really be made of any fabric. I was going to model the boys terrorist outfits after Bob's halloween costume (basically a long white long sleeved shirt, and the fancy head gear. I made a faux suicide bomb out of water bottles and wires we had lying around.
*on a side note, do you think this discussion of terrorist costuming puts us on an auto govt watch list somewhere? Wouldn't that be hilarious!
So lets leave that in the air till after interfuse.

Driving out there. Under extreme duress I must be back at work on Tuesday. :( My boss has set down the law, so I must meekly comply. Luckily we made it back by Tuesday last year, so it's a feat I know can be done. I also have a glorious truck. However, last year we filled up a large uhaul trailer that we towed. We have more of a skeleton crew so far this year, and I believe Bicho will be taking some of his big items separately. But we will still have 2 domes (which is uh, around 25 10-12 ft 3 inch pvc pipes(I'm pulling these measures out of my ass so leave the correct specs if you can think of them)) 1 bike per person, some sort of flat playa furniture (see former posts for more info: search for pluton) preferably 2!! plutons, a ton of other stuff and a shit ton of H20 that can be purchased on the way. (since it costs a ton to drag stuff out there, thanks Bush!)
If you are volunteering to drive (and sweet if you are!) we could do a rotation of flyers/drivers to and from the burn. Obviously we all split gas for hauling evenly. Depending on how many people go in the end (although you can never plan on anyone else, from past experience) will give us a better idea of whats going to happen. However, I think we should try the flying bit this year, as it seems cheaper/better for morale.
That all said, we are totally cool driving... it was part of why I purchased my awesome truck, so we'd always have our own asses covered when it comes to driving out to burning man.

I am still dutifully watching the boards to see if we can come up with a cheap gas powered golf cart for pirate ship glory. This would obviously increase our stuff as well.

Does anyone have access to a big (as long as the PVCpipes) trailer?

25 pieces of 2" diameter 10' long PVC for the newer dome, 25 pieces of 1.5" diameter 10' long PVC for the older. 50 sticks all together - altho it's very easy to strap to the top of things as it provides very little air resistance.

We had 28 pieces atop the explorer in '06 and it worked perfectly - cleaned the sticks out on the way to boot.

Bikes & water will be the hardest part as usual.
